Aviation English - Assessment
Online assessment (45 minutes)
The Aviation English Assessment is designed to evaluate a wide range of English language skills, from grammar
and vocabulary to speaking. Upon completion of the Assessment, your level will be assessed according to the
Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) Scale (A1-C2). The assessment results are
used to determine your eligibility to enrol in the IATA Aviation English eLearning course and IATA Aviation
English – Intensive virtual classroom course.
Objectives
Upon completion of this course you will be able to:
- Determine your English assessment level
- Be eligible to enrol in the IATA Aviation English
eLearning course which recommends that you
achieve at least level B1 (equivalent to ICAO level 3) - Be eligible to enrol in the IATA Aviation English –
intensive course which recommends that you
achieve at least level B1 (equivalent to ICAO level 3)
Please note that this assessment cannot be used as
proof of your level of English for purposes other
than your eligibility to enrol in the IATA Aviation
English eLearning course.

Aviation professionals using air-ground voice communications for international air operations including:
- Air Traffic Controllers and ATC assistants
- Private, charter and commercial pilots who fly international routes
- Aircraft dispatchers
- Aviation students and trainees

- There are no prerequisites for this assessment
Assessment format
- Please use Chrome browser to access the Assessment.
- Non-supervised online-based assessment, that can be taken any time at your convenience followed by a speaking assessment with an instructor.
- You will be given 30 minutes to complete 60 multiple choice questions and 10-15 minutes in a speaking interview.
- Your assessment level will be provided to you shortly after you finish the assessment questions.
